Life in the UK Test
What do you need to take to the Life in the UK Test?
Quick answer
Bring valid photo ID (such as your passport or biometric residence permit) and proof of address, both matching the details on your booking. Without the correct documents you’ll be turned away and lose the £50 fee.
Acceptable ID
You’ll need the photo ID you specified when booking — commonly a passport, biometric residence permit (BRP), or travel document. It must be valid and the name must match your booking exactly. Check the accepted-document list on GOV.UK before you travel.
Proof of address
Bring a recent document showing your name and the address on your booking, such as a utility bill, bank statement, or council tax letter. Centres set their own rules on how recent it must be, so allow for that.
Arrive early and prepared
Get to the centre early for document checks. Bring your booking confirmation/reference too. If your documents don’t match or are missing, you can’t sit the test and the fee is gone — so confirm requirements on GOV.UK the week before.
