Each country of the UK has its own patron saint and saint’s day, and the Union Flag combines several of their crosses. These come up often in the test.

Key facts to remember

  • St George — England — St George’s Day, 23 April.
  • St Andrew — Scotland — St Andrew’s Day, 30 November.
  • St David — Wales — St David’s Day, 1 March.
  • St Patrick — Northern Ireland — St Patrick’s Day, 17 March.
  • The Union Flag combines the crosses of St George, St Andrew and St Patrick.
